About Animal Emergency Center

Our History

The Animal Emergency Center was founded in 1977 as an overnight emergency clinic serving pet owners and veterinarians in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. In 1984, it became one of the nation's first 24-hour emergency and critical care referral centers. The Center was originally located in a house on Appleton Avenue and moved to the West Florist Avenue location in 1988. In 1991, veterinary specialists in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, and surgery were added to the team of veterinary care-givers.

On July 1, 1999, the Animal Emergency Center became the first business to move into its new, award-winning facility in the renovated West Silver Spring Business District. With the expansion of 3,000+ square feet to the east end of the building completed in July 2006, the 13,800+ square foot state-of-the-art facility features a large waiting area, four examination rooms, 3 surgical suites, 41-cage ICU, large treatment room, 13-cage isolation unit, laboratory, imaging room, 2 procedure rooms, Vet MR, spiral CT, water treadmill, family room, conference room, offices, and library. We are currently in the process of remodeling our waiting room to provide a more comforting atmosphere, with completion anticipated late spring of 2007.
