Rebecca Kirby , DVM,
DACVIM, DACVECC - Executive
Director & Director of Education
www.wsava.org
This award is presented to Dr. Rebecca Kirby
for her outstanding work in promoting companion animal healthcare. Dr.
Kirby has been a guiding light in the development and growth of the
specialty of emergency medicine. Under her guidance the Emergency Service
at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania developed
a reputation for excellence. The care of dogs and cats in critical states
involves cutting-edge knowledge of internal medicine, homeostasis, and
nutritional support. The relation with pets in this critical situation

care is a particularly stressful situation for the family/pet/veterinary
bond. Dr. Kirby has consistently shown exceptional qualities in all
of these skills.
Dr.
Kirby has demonstrated organizational and leadership talents, as well
as being a talented educator of graduate veterinarians. She is an outstanding
public speaker and is a much sought after lecturer all over the world.

complex material in relevant ways allowed her to personally influence
patient care for countless animals all over the world.Dr.
Kirby was fundamentally involved in the creation of the American College
of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and served on its Board of
Regents for many years. She was elected to the office of President of
the College from 1995-1997. Her list of publications covers a variety
of subjects, all indicating a keen eye for development of the specialty
